Your location & service area
How to set your primary address and postcode on the Location step, why the postcode matters, and how the map pin lets you fine-tune exactly where you appear.
The Location step puts you on the map. We use it to show you to customers searching nearby and to rank you by distance, so it's worth getting right.
The fields
- Name — an internal label for this location (for example Main shop). Customers don't rely on this; it's to help you tell locations apart.
- Postcode (required) — UK and Isle of Man postcodes are both supported. It's used to place you on the map and rank you in nearby searches.
- Address (everything else) — the unit, building, street and town — everything except the postcode.
- Country — your country.
- Location phone (optional) — a number specific to this location.
Postcodes: UK and Isle of Man
Enter a valid UK or Isle of Man postcode (for example M1 1AA). It's automatically tidied to uppercase. If what you type doesn't look like a UK or IM postcode you'll see "That doesn't look like a UK or Isle of Man postcode" and won't be able to continue until it's fixed.
The map and the pin
When you enter a valid postcode, LocalFor.Me geocodes it and drops a pin at the postcode's centre.
- If that spot isn't quite right, drag the pin to your exact front door. Your dragged position takes priority over the postcode centre.
- If you change the postcode later, we re-geocode to the new postcode unless you've manually moved the pin.
Tip: if your premises sit a little away from the postcode centroid — common on industrial estates or long rural roads — drag the pin to the real entrance. Customers using the map will thank you.
A note on accuracy
The postcode and pin determine where you show up in distance-ordered search. An inaccurate location means the right local customers may not see you, so place yourself precisely.
