Cash on collection
Let buyers reserve an order and pay in cash when they collect. Part of the paid Features add-on; cash sales are commission-free, orders hold stock for 48 hours, and you record the cash at handover.
Shops on the Features add-on can let buyers pay in cash when they collect. Cash sales are commission-free — the platform takes no fee and no card payment happens.
Cash on collection is part of the paid Features add-on (the same plan as extra storage and custom domains). Without an active subscription the option is hidden and cash-marked items fall back to card at checkout, so nothing becomes unbuyable.
Turning cash on
- Go to Manage → Business details and set Default payment method to Cash on pickup. This applies to new items; existing items can override it individually.
- In the item editor, the Payment field inherits the shop default or can be set to Card online or Cash on pickup for that listing.
- Cash items must be collectable — choosing cash automatically requires Pickup fulfilment (items marked Post only can't be cash).
What the buyer sees
At the basket, next to Checkout, they see Pay cash on collection (only when every item can be collected). Placing the order reserves the stock and shows "Pay £X in cash when you collect"; the shop is emailed too.
Cash orders aren't kept forever: uncollected orders auto-cancel after 48 hours and the stock is released. Buyers can't choose cash on items that are posted — cash is collection-only.
Recording the cash
Open Manage → Orders. The Cash due chip lists every uncollected cash order (rows also carry a Cash badge). On the order page:
- Hand over the goods and take the cash.
- Enter the amount (prefilled with the total) and click Mark cash received — the order becomes Paid, the buyer gets a receipt, and the payout panel shows it as a cash sale (no Stripe fee, no platform commission).
- If it's never collected, use Cancel uncollected order — or let the 48-hour sweep do it and release the stock automatically.
Custom orders + cash
The mock-up approval loop works exactly the same: the buyer orders, you send a mock-up, they approve, and you take cash at collection. The design must be approved before you can record the cash (the app blocks it otherwise). Auto-charge is ignored for cash orders — no card is involved.
Note: cash orders are only offered for shops already set up for online checkout (Stripe connected). Cash-only shops with no Stripe account are not supported yet. If your Features add-on lapses, cash items stay in your catalogue but buyers are offered card checkout instead.
